Product Description

Continuing on in The Royal Mint's trend to release coins with new monetary denominations, in 2015 the very first BU £50 coin was released to the public. Struck in 0.999 fine silver and having a legal tender value of Fifty Pounds, it features a stunning interpretation of Britannia on the reverse. Designed by Jody Clark, Britannia is seen with her trident upstanding with the British Lion at her feet. An outline of the world is seen on the background. This reverse design was also seen on the 2014 silver proof Britannia coin series. Jody Clark is also responsible for the engraving on the obverse. It shows the fifth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and is one of the first UK coins to feature this new image. Unlike the traditional one ounce silver proof Britannia coins, this £50 silver Britannia has a silver content of 30.97 grams, which is actually 0.9957 troy ounces. It measures 34.00 millimetres in diameter and is issued in an attractive blue slipcase. Only 100,000 coins have been authorised to be issued in this limited edition presentation
